September 2, 2021: Hurricane Ida, the second most intense hurricane to strike the U.S. state of Louisiana, has claimed lives of fourteen people.
Seven people died in New York, three in Louisiana, two in Mississippi, one in Maryland, and one in New Jersey.
Hurricane Ida caused at least $15 billion in insured losses in Louisiana.
The storm caused severe damage across the coastal areas of Louisiana, including in New Orleans, Golden Meadow, Houma, Galliano, LaPlace, and Grand Isle.
On August 29, tornado watches were issued for parts of Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi.
States of emergency have been declared in New York and New Jersey as well as New York City itself.
