How does the Transamerica pyramid withstand earthquakes?

Q: How does the Transamerica pyramid withstand earthquakes?

A: Transamerica pyramid consists of network of diagonal trusses at its base which supports it against both horizontal and vertical forces. Transamerica pyramid sits on a 52-feet deep foundation of concrete and steel that was designed to move with the earth during a quake.

The Transamerica pyramid is located in the Financial District of San Francisco, California, United States, which is also the second tallest building in the San Francisco skyline.

The Salesforce Tower built in 2018 is currently the tallest building in San Francisco.
