March 13, 2020: Heavy rains and flooding in Egypt have claimed lives of around 20 people leading to one of the worst weather in several decades.
According to the Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, "Egypt has not experienced such weather conditions for nearly 35 or 40 years."
Five people died in Zaraib, south of Cairo, when their homes were swept away. Two people were electrocuted and killed in Cairo.
Two people died in the southern province of Qena. A man died in southern Sohag province.
Authorities have shut down Luxor International Airport. Also three seaports, the Mediterranean port of Alexandria and the Red Sea ports of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada have been closed.
