January 10, 2020: Mexico's Popocatépetl volcano erupted on Thursday with lava and cloud of ash and rocks that reached 9,800ft (3,000m) into the sky.
National Civil Protection Coordination of Mexico has issued a yellow alert for the area around San Nicolás de los Ranchos.
According to the Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Washington, the Popocatépetl volcano monitoring network detected 268 exhalations, 90 minutes of tremors, and 3 volcano-tectonic earthquakes.
Popocatepetl volcano last eruption caused light ashfall in the State of Mexico; Ozumba; Puebla; San Nicolás de los Ranchos; Chiautzingo; San Matías Tlalpaneca, and Teotlalzingo.
Popocatepetl, which is often nicknamed El Popo, is Mexico's most active volcano.
