January 23, 2020: Magnitude 3.0 earthquake has been recorded in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham today at just before 6 a.m., the British Geological Survey (BGS) reported.
The earthquake occurred at 4 km depth.
The tremor was felt across Stockton, Billingham, Hartlepool, Wolviston and Middlesbrough.
According to BGS, more than 370 reports has been received from people who felt the earthquake in Stockton-on-Tees today.
Typical reports described, "woke me up, felt like someone had crashed into the house with a car", "single shock felt like an explosion nearby", "it felt like the house was lifting from its foundations. It was over in a second or two but the shaking was severe", "felt my entire room move and I have never felt anything like that in my life" and "the whole wardrobe was shaking".
