Magnitude 4.8 earthquake recorded off Vancouver Island today

January 8, 2020: An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 has been recorded off Vancouver Island today at 12:20 local time, Earthquakes Canada reported.

According to the Earthquakes Canada, the earthquake's epicenter was located 215 km W of Port Hardy, BC. The earthquake occurred at 10km depth.

However, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude 4.4 earthquake off Vancouver Island today, lower than what Earthquakes Canada reported.

No major damage or injuries is expected from this earthquake.

Magnitude 7.4 was the largest earthquake recorded in this region in 1970.
