May 30, 2017: At least nine people died and thousands of houses were destroyed as severe cyclonic storm mora hit the southwest districts of Bangladesh.
Cyclone mora made landfall in the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar coastline with gusty wind at the speed of 146kmph, Dhaka Tribune reported.
Five people died in Cox's Bazar, two in Rangamati and one each in Bjola and Bandarban.
At least 10 people were injured by falling trees and collapsing houses in Cox’s Bazar. More than 150,000 people have been taking shelter in 538 cyclone centres around the district.
Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barisal and Pirojpur are at high risk.
Meanwhile, at least 21 fishermen have been missing in the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday.
Severe Cyclonic Storm Mora caused widespread impacts across Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Northeast India. At least 203 people died in Sri Lanka due to flooding and landslide caused by cyclone mora.
