May 24, 2017: A massive landslide has buried a section of California's iconic Highway 1 in Big Sur.
According to the Associated Press, more than one million tons of rock and dirt buried a .25 stretch of Highway 1 under 40-feet of debris.
The Big Sur landslide is covering up about a one-quarter-of-a-mile (0.40-kilometer) stretch of Highway 1, and authorities have no estimate on when it might re-open. The area remains unstable.
