A rare tropical cyclone Chapala has claimed lives of eight people and injured hundreds others in Yemen.
Five people died by drowning and three in collapsed homes in Hadramawt province between Tuesday and early Wednesday, Yahoo News reported.
More than 200 people injured when Chapala hit Socotra. Around 3,000 families have been displaced by tropical cyclone Chapala in Yemen, Mohammed al-Amudi of the governorate's technical affairs department said.
According to the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, at least 1.1 million people, mainly in the provinces of Hadramawt and Shabwa, are expected to be affected by Chapala.
