Tornado in Delmont, South Dakota injures 9 – Residents asked to evacuate

Tornado in Delmont, South Dakota has injured at least nine people and damaged dozens of buildings.

Residents of Delmont are being asked to leave the town for the safety reason.

The tornado struck the town around 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Tornado damaged about 20 buildings, including Zion Lutheran Church. According to Star Tribune, Children who were in school took shelter in the basement when the tornado hit.

Gov. Daugaard arrived in Delmont just before 3:00 p.m. to survey the tornado damage and Emergency Operations Center in Pierre has been activated to assist in the incident.
