Flights cancelled as Mexico's Popocatepetl volcano erupts

At least three flights have been cancelled following the eruption at Popocatepetl volcano east of Mexico City.

"Operations in Puebla were suspended at 6:30 a.m. (7:30 a.m. EST) to allow airport personnel to clean runways and other areas covered in ash," CTV News has written quoting a statement from the government's airport oversight agency on Wednesday.

Mexico's Popocatepetl volcanic eruption has affected three flights to Houston, Monterrey and Guadalajara.

Popocatepetl volcano sent a column of ash nearly 4 kilometres into the sky, Mexico's National Center for Disaster Prevention said.

US airlines had cancelled dozens of flights to and from Mexico City after Popocatepetl volcano eruption in July last year.
