Moro Gulf Earthquake shakes Cotabato, Koronadal

M 6.3 strong deep earthquake in Moro Gulf region shook the Cotabato and Koronadal area of Philippines, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 102 km WSW of Sangay. It was 384 miles deep.

Tremor was well felt in Cotabato, Koronadal Cagayan de Oro and Davao region of Philippines.

No damage or injuries have been reported so far.

The 1976 Moro Gulf earthquake and tsunami had claimed lives 8,000 people. The violent earthquake occurred in the island of Mindanao spawning a tsunami that devastated more than 700 kms of coastline bordering Moro Gulf in the North Celebes Sea, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has mentioned in its website.

The 1976 Moro Gulf earthquake and tsunami was one of the most devastating disasters in the history of the Philippine Islands.
