Largest earthquake in 50 years hits Melbourne's east

Largest earthquake in 50 years rattled the Melbourne’s east this morning,The Herald Sun reported.

According to the Geoscience Australia, the 3.3-magnitude earthquake hit between Pakenham and Berwick. It was 10 km deep.

"Today’s earthquake was only the eighth to strike the Berwick and Pakenham area in the past 50 years", Herald Sun has written quoting Geoscience duty seismologist Marco Maldoni.

This earthquake's center sits in a rather quiet area for seismological activity.

Geoscience Australia estimates that this earthquake could have been felt by people up to 31 km away.
