Floods, Landslide in Malaysian hill station 'Cameron Highlands' kill 3

Flash floods and landslides in Malaysian hill station Cameron Highlands have claimed lives of at least three people.

The landslide at Ringlet and Bertam Valley buried two and flash floods in Kuala Terla killed one people, Free Malaysia Today has written quoting the Cameron Highlands OCPD Deputy Supt Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu.

Fatalities includes a foreigner, a Nepalese vegetable farm worker, Md Yousuf Miya who was found buried in Jalan Ulu Merah, Ringlet.

Malaysian Natural Resources and Environment Minister G. Palanivel had raised the concern of deteriorating environment in the Cameroon Highlands in May 2013. Destruction of forests and hills was then assumed as the major problem in that area.

The Cameron Highlands (Tanah Tinggi Cameron') is one of Malaysia’s most extensive hill stations located about 200 kilometres from the capital city, Kuala Lumpur.

Landslides in Malaysia are common natural disasters in Malaysia occurring along hillsides and steep slopes.
