Landslide in Jure blocks Sunkoshi river – Bihar on flood alert

The Bihar government has issued flood alert in Supaul, Saharsa, Purnea and Madhepura districts along the Koshi region in India following the landslide in Jure of Ramche VDC, Sindhupalchowk district of Nepal.

Massive landslide in Jure blocked the Sunkoshi river Saturday morning. Sunkoshi is one of  the seven tributary of Saptakoshi river which flows to Bihar region in India.

Bihar disaster management department has appealed the villagers settled along the Koshi embankments to flee to safer places as soon as possible.  The Koshi river broke its banks in 2008 and claimed lives of more than 500 people.

Five teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and three teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been sent to the area.

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed the authorities for possible help to the Bihar government and Nepal. The disaster happened a day earlier of Modi's official visit to Nepal.
