Heavy rain and flooding in Sudan have claimed lives of at least 17 people over the past five days.
Flooding has displaced 42,000 people over the past week in Unity state’s Mayom county, The Sudan Tribune mentioned.
According to The State, the central Sudan was most affected by the flood, especially the capital, Khartoum.
The ongoing conflict has severely disrupted crop planting, leading to critical food shortages. According to Sudan Tribune (August, 2013), Khartoum is vulnerable to flash floods because of poor drainage and urban planning.
Flash floods in Sudan in August 2013 had claimed lives of at least 50 people. It caused flood damage in at least 14 of 18 Sudanese states.
