Violent hailstorm in Bulgaria's capital Sofia kills 1, injures 40

A severe hailstorm in Bulgaria's capital city of Sofia has claimed life of a 70-year-old pedestrian and injured 40 others, The Sofia News Agency reported.

The storm knocked down a tree on the pedestrian in the park Borisova Gradina. Injured people are having treatment in the emergency center of the Pirogov hospital.

According to the Sofia News Agency, the central district of Stochna Gara has been flooded and traffic there has been completely blocked. Many buildings have been flooded, including the Sofia Emergency care main building.

Hundreds of owners of damaged cars have been queuing for hail storm insurance claims, The Sofia News Agency added.

Bulgarian Government has now allocated BGN 1.2M for anti-hail missiles.
