Flooding in Andean Cusco region of Peru leaves 16,000 homeless, emergency declared

Flooding in Andean Cusco region of Southern Peru has made 16,000 people homeless, Xinhua reported.

The Quillabamba River burst its banks following torrential downpours and caused flooding in the area.

A state of emergency has been declared in the area and rescue teams have been send to help the people in disaster area.

The central government has been asked to send emergency humanitarian aid and machinery to the flood zone immediately.
