Somalia storm kills 100, natural disaster emergency declared

At least 100 people have been died over the weekend by a tropical cyclone 3A in Puntland region of Somalia.

A heavy storm hit Bandarbeyle and Eyl towns on Saturday and Sunday causing heavy flooding in the area.

Government has declared a natural disaster emergency and has set up an emergency and rescue committee in response to the tragedy.

Cape Guardufui in northeastern Puntland and the town of Eyl are believed to be worst hit areas.

Cyclones are unusual in Somalia. Tropical Cyclone 3A is just the fifth storm to strike the country since records began in 1966, WunderBlog reported.
