Tropical Storm Chantal, the third named storm of the 2013 Atlantic
hurricane season has formed southwest of the Lesser Antilles Sunday

First death from tropical storm Chantal has been reported. A 26 years Dominican firefighter was killed in Maimon.
Street floodings have been reported in Santo Domingo. Las Americas International Airport has cancelled some international flights to Brazil, Haiti and the United States.
A nationwide red alert has been declared in Haiti due to the possibility of flooding and landslides.
Tropical storm Chantal caused several tornadoes in Antigua.

Chantal is currently moving towards Dominican Republic and Haiti. Landslides and heavy flooding could hit Dominican Republic and Haiti, disaster management official said.
Chantal is expected to make landfall Wednesday afternoon in Dominican Republic. According to the hurricane center, Hispaniola could see 10 inches of rains.

Chantal is currently located 540 km SE of San Juan Puerto Rico with a maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. It is moving rapidly away from the Lesser Antilles and into the eastern Caribbean Sea. Chantal is
expected to reach Dominican Republic tomorrow (Wednesday).
A storm surge will raise water levels by as much as 1 to 3 feet above normal tide levels in the Leeward Islands, Windward Islands and Puerto Rico.

According to the latest report issued by National Hurricane Center in Miami at 15:00 UTC, Chantal is located 85 km NW of St. Lucia and 660 km SE of San Juan Puerto Rico.
The government of the Dominican Republic has issued a Hurricane Watch from Barahona to Samana.
Chantal is currently moving between Martinique and St. Lucia.

In a press conference at District Emergency Management (DEM), minister of Home Affairs and Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite has urged Barbadians to stay indoors until a green signal is given.

Chantal is currently located 120 km E of Barbados and 285 km E of St. Lucia.
The Government of St. Lucia has closed the George F. Charles Airport. The cancellation of leave for police officers has been announced in meeting of the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO).
According to the Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony, all schools will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Similarly local emergency services are in full alert in Barbados. Category One shelter has been opened.

According to the latest report issued by National Hurricane Center in Miami at 03:00 UTC, Chantal is located 380 km ESE of Barbados and 555 km ESE of St. Lucia. Dominican Republic government has replaced the tropical storm watch with a tropical storm warning from Cabo engano to the border with Haiti.

According to the National Hurricane Center, the center of Chantal will reach the Lesser Antilles early Tuesday, the eastern Caribbean sea later Tuesday and near the Dominican Republic on Wednesday. Chantal is forecast to weaken over Hispaniola and Cuba.
It is also predicted to bring thunderstorm in Florida Peninsula later in the week.
Another tropical storm Erick is getting closer to Mexico's Baja California peninsula.

Chantal was located 1,130 km ESE of Barbados. The government of France has also issued a tropical storm warning for Martinique and Guadeloupe. In total, tropical storm warning is in effect for Barbados, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Martinique and Guadeloupe.
Chantal continues to move rapidly toward the Lesser Antilles.
Barbados Meteorological Office has told Barbadians to prepare for bad weather tonight and tomorrow morning. Local emergency services have been put on standby, emergency management official said.

As of 03:00 UTC, the center of Tropical Storm Chantal was located 2,800 miles southeast of Raleigh and is moving west at 26 mph toward the Lesser Antilles.
The government of Barbados has issued a tropical storm warning for Barbados and Dominica and a tropical storm watch for St. Vincent.
The government of Saint Lucia has also issued a tropical storm warning for Saint Lucia.
Tropical storm Chantal is expected to produce 2 to 4 inches of rains over the Leeward and Windward Islands, NOAA's National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida said.
Weather officials have expected more tropical warnings and watches for Lesser Antilles on Monday morning.
