Karnataka floods claim lives of 6

Flash floods in Karnataka, India has claimed lives of six people.

Hundreds of people have been evacuated from low-lying areas in Dakshina Kannada and Malnad region.

According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), heavy rainfall has flooded Dakshina Kannada, Shimoga, Hassan and Kodagu areas.

Heavy rainfall has also flooded Bantwal. At least ten houses have been flooded in Kasaba, Panemngalore area.

A high alert has been issued in Indore.

Heavy rainfalls have submerged Hosamutta Bridge and disrupted traffic on the Kadaba-Uppinangady State Highway.

Similarly a major landslide has hit Anmod Ghat along Goa-Karnataka road. Heavy rainfall triggered landslide in the area at 2 a.m. Wednesday morning disrupting the road between Goa and Karnataka.

The 2009 India floods claimed lives of at least 36 people. The most flood affected states were Karnataka, Orissa, Kerala, Gujarat and North-East Indian states.
