2013 Indonesia earthquake claims 35, injures at least 275

35 reported to be killed with 8 still missing. At least 275 people reported to be injured.

Lutheran World Relief (LWR) staff in Indonesia report that the earthquake damaged nearly 4,300 houses and nearly 80 public facilities (including health centers, schools, mosques and village offices) in Bener Meriah and Central Aceh. Nearly all damaged houses are inhabitable. Despite infrastructure damage, the majority of shops and markets are open for business, allowing affected populations to purchase needed items.  The earthquake resulted in displacement of people from their houses due to structural damage, as well as fear of additional quakes. An estimated 6,500 people are displaced and reside in approximately 60 displacement sites in Bener Meriah and Central Aceh, according to the Aceh Disaster Mitigation Agency.

At least 25 reported to be killed in Indonesia earthquake. 100 plus injured.



Magnitude 6.1 very strong earthquake in Indonesia caused landslides, collapsed buildings and claimed lives of at least five people.

At least 100 people are reported to be injured in today's Indonesia earthquake with worst in Timang Gajah district. Injured people are having treatment at General Hospital in Bener Meriah.

Police and military personnel were involved in emergency operations.

Tremor which lasted for 15 seconds was felt from Bener Meriah to Banda Aceh. People ran outside in panic in Banda Aceh.

In April 2012, magnitude 8.6-magnitude earthquake hit off Banda Aceh, Indonesia prompting an Indian Ocean-wide tsunami alert.
