Weak earthquake in Maine today

M 2.6 weak earthquake hits Maine today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located just 2 km W of Sidney. It was 3.1 miles deep.

Tremor was well felt in Central Maine.

Magnitude 4.0 earthquake hit Maine in October 2012.

Moderate earthquakes in Maine are extremely rare. Reports have shown that moderate earthquake takes place in New England once every few decades.

The strongest earthquake in Maine was in 1904 (M 5.9) in the Eastport area, near the state's eastern border with Canada.
