Assam heat wave kills 6, highest temperature in 33 years

Recent heat wave has claimed lives of at least six people in Assam in last 24 hours, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) said.

Fatalities are from Barak Valley, Nagaon district and Guwahati region of Assam, India.

Temperature of 38.5 degrees Celsius was recorded on Wednesday in Guwahati which is the highest in the last 33 years. Earlier in 1979, 38.4 degrees Celsius temperature was recorded in the state.

All private and government schools in Kamrup (Metro) district are closed for next two days.

Hot weather conditions are expected to continue for the next 48 hours.
