Intense heat has claimed lives of at least three people in Odisha, India based IBN reported.
Met Office has recorded temperature over 46 degree Celsius in several parts of Odisha. Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bolangir and Sundergarh districts are reported to be worst affected by recent heat wave.
The hottest temperature (48 degree celsius) has been recorded in Churu in Rajasthan. The heat waves have also increased across UP, Delhi, Rajasthan and Punjab.
This year temperatures are expected 3 to 4 degrees above normal in many parts of North India.
Extreme heat is expected to last at least till May 24, 2013.
The 2002 Indian heat wave claimed lives of more than 1,000 people.
