Argentina floods 2013: Massive flooding in Buenos Aires and La Plata kills 57

Death toll from violent storm and heavy flooding in Argentina has risen to 57. Still 20 people are reported to be missing.

Update April 4, 2013
-Flash floods in Buenos Aires and the nearby university city of La Plata have killed at least 54 people.
-The government in Argentina has declared three days of national mourning from Wednesday.
-At least 48 people died in La Plata and six others died in Buenos Aires.
-Following Buenos Aires Mayor Mauricio Macri, about 350,000 people have been affected by the recent floods.
-At least 2,500 people have been evacuated from La Plata area. Evacuated people are living in 20 different evacuation centers.
-Around 280,000 Argentines are without electricity. 
-Schools and government offices in La Plata have been closed.
-It is believed to be the heaviest April rainfall in a century.

-Death toll from Argentina floods 2013 has further risen to 8.
-About 300 people have been evacuated from the slum.

-Death toll from flooding in Buenos Aires, Argentina has risen to 6.
-Flash floods have also interrupted the Sarmiento and Mitre train lines.
-Around 450,000 residents in Buenos Aires are without power.

Following Buenos Aires Mayor Mauricio Macri, recent storm in Buenos Aires is the worst storm since 1906.

Flooding in Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina on April 2, 2013 has claimed lives of at least five people.

One person electrocuted and four others drowned to death.

Around 6.1 inches (155 millimeters) of rainfall has been recoded in just two hours in Buenos Aires. This rainfall in Buenos Aires broke the earlier record of 142 millimeters in two hours made in April 1989.

Emergency preparedness officials have urged people to stay at home.

The Argentine National Metereological Service has predicted more storms in Buenos Aires in coming hours and heavy rainfall until Friday.

Flooding is the most prominent natural hazard in Argentina. Earlier reports have shown Argentina in 18th position in the world in potential flood losses.

Floods in Buenos Aires in 1958 claimed 360 people.
