Indonesia's Mount Lokon Volcano erupts: Locals rushed to road

Indonesia's Mount Lokon Volcano erupts today sending a plume of ash 2,000 meters into the sky from its Tompaluan crater.

Mount Lokon volcano in Sulawesi island of  Indonesia erupts today, spewing volcanic ash up to 2,000 meters high into the air from its Tompaluan crater.

As earlier, Indonesian government has set a safety radius of 2.5 km from the crater.

Bandung Geology Agency’s volcanology and geological disaster mitigation center (PVMBG) has set Indonesia's Mount Lokon volcanic activity at ALERT level 3.

Loud bangs forced residents around Mount Lokon volcano to rush to the omohon-Manado main road. However no evacuation order has been issued after the eruption in mount Lokon.

There are 129 volcanoes in Indonesia including Mount Lokon. Major eruption of Mount Lokon in 1991 killed a Swiss hiker.
