Recent Natural Disasters
  • Flash floods across Pakistan
    -Recent floods across have affected people in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (Fata).
    -Flash flood in the Chengikhel area of Landikotal killed one and injured two others.
    -Floods also damaged dozens of houses in parts of eastern Balochistan.
    -Following Met Office in Peshawar, more rainfall is forecast tonight.

  • M 4.1 light shallow earthquake in Nevada 9@ 9 km depth) with epicenter located 27 km S from Tonopah Junction. It will have well felt by the people of Hawthorne, Mammoth Lakes, Bishop, Yerington, Dixon Lane-Meadow Creek, Silver peak, West Bishop, Tonopah, Big Pine, Bridgeport and Goldfield.

  • M 6.9 strong earthquake in Kuril Islands (@ 53 km depth) with epicenter located 85 km SE of Ozernovskiy, Russia. Moderate shaking of MMI V will have felt by the people of Ozernovskiy and Severo-Kuril'sk.

  • M 4.6 moderate shallow earthquake in Turkmenistan (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 44 km SSE of Baherden. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Asgabat, Buzmeyin and Bojnurd (Iran).

  • M 6.1 strong earthquake in Vanuatu (@ 15 km depth) with epicenter located 104 km W of Port-Vila. People of Port-Vila, Lakatoro, Norsup, Luganville, Isangel, Port-Olry, Ouegoa and Pouebo will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

  • M 4.7 moderate earthquake in Northeastern Sakha, Russia (@ 16 km depth) with epicenter located 141 km WSW of Druzhina (Serbia). It will have faintly felt by the people in coastal area.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Angola (Cotundo), Australia, Bolivia, Botswana (Selinda), Brazil (Rio Juruena, Araquaia, Purus, Tocantins), China (Mekong, Xi Jiang, Brahmaputra, Yangtze, Indus), Colombia (Rio Negro), Honduras, Iraq (Shatt al Arab), Kenya, Mozambique (Chire), Pakistan (Indus), Peru (Ucayali, Rio Maraon), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile), United States (Mississippi, Arkansas), Vietnam, Zambia (Zambezi, Likando).
  • Flooding in Agusan del Sur, Philippines
    -Recent floods in Agusan del Sur have killed one and affected 49,000 persons.
    -A four year old boy
    died by drowning in San Luis.
    -Floods across Veruela, San Luis, Sta. Josefa, La Paz, Prosperidad and Loreto have also destroyed agricultural crops.


Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Fuego, Reventador, Etna, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Erta Ale, Barren Island, Raung, Paluweh, Gamalama, Sakurajima, Kakar, Tinakula, Yasur, Tolbachik and Kilauea.
  • Italy/Sciara del Fuoco recent volcanic activity
    -A new lava flow has been observed on Sciara del Fuoco.
    -Following the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Catania, lava flow from the
    Sciara del Fuoco has mixed into the sea.


Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Tropical Cyclone Rusty
    -As of 02:00 UTC, TC Rusty was located 65nm east of Port Hedland, Australia.
    -
    Cyclone Rusty made landfall in Pardoo town in Western Australia.
    -A red alert has been issued by Australia's Department of Fire and Emergency Services for Pardoo and nearby Whim Creek. Similarly a blue alert is in effect between Nullagine and Newman.

  • According to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the super storm Sandy federal flood insurance claims are being paid too slowly. He also complained about worse performance of the national flood insurance program to President Barack Obama. A $9.7 billion insurance program was iissued last month for the victims of hurricane Sandy.
  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced Coconino, Greenlee, La Paz, Mohave and Pima counties in Arizona as primary natural disaster areas due to damages and losses caused by the recent droughts.
