Recent Natural Disasters
- Flooding in South Sulawesi, Indonesia
-At least five people killed due to flooding disaster in the Indonesian province of South Sulawesi.
-Victims were swept away by floodwaters in the South Sulawesi regencies of Gowa, Jeneponto and Pangkep.
-Flooding and landslides also disrupted travel along highways, including the Maros-Bone route.
-Following National Search and Rescue Agency, floods caused damages to thousands of houses and public facilities.
-The 2010 floods in eastern Indonesian province of West Papua killed around 148 people (Photo: A flash flood in Wasior, Indonesia's Papua province in 2010; AFP).
Update
-Death toll from floods in South Sulawesi province, Indonesia has risen to 8.
-Three people died in Gowa, two in Pangkep, two in Jeneponto and one in Barru.

- M 5.2 moderate earthquake in Taiwan (@ 73 km depth) with epicenter located 108 km E from Su-ao. People of Taipei, Hua-lien and Ishigaki-jima, Ryukyu Islands, Japan will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.
06:49 UTC (local time Monday, January 07, 2013 at 02:49 PM @ epicenter) - M 4.1 light shallow earthquake in France (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 2 km W Arvieux. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Briançon and Turin.

- Flooding in Rukungiri, Uganda
-Floods displaced 500 people in Rwenshama fishing village in Bwambara sub-county, Rukungiri district of Uganda.
-Displaced people are currently living at Rwenshama Primary School and Rwenshama Health Centre.

- Tropical Storm Sonamu
-As of 08:00 UTC, TS Sonamu was located 250 nm south-southeast of Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam.
-Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin in Pahang, Malaysia are expected to be flooded due to Sonamu storm.
-Sonamu is predicted to hit Pahang between Jan 9 and 10 with winds speed of up to 40 km per hour.

- Mercury has fallen below zero in capital Kathmandu of Nepal for first time in five years. Following Nepal Meteorological officials, the minimum temperature today morning was recorded -0.2 degree Celsius in Kathmandu.
