  • Flooding in Egyam, Ghana
    -Recent floods killed woman and her two grand children in Egyam in the Ahanta West District of Ghana.
    -An eighth months baby was also washed away in Accra floods. Accra is the capital and largest city of Ghana.
    -Heavy rainstorms destroyed 25 houses and also affected Sekondi-Takoradi.
    -National Disaster Management Organisation NADMO and the Ahanta West District Assembly officials have visited the community to assess the situation.
    -2010 West African floods killed at least 24 people across Ghana.

  • M 4.8 moderate shallow earthquake in Liaoning, China (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 22 km ENE of Liaozhong. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Anshan, Liaoyang and Shenyang. People of Meihekou, Panshan and Ta-shih-ch'iao will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

  • M 4.6 moderate shallow earthquake in Costa Rica (@ 28 km depth) with epicenter located just 5 km WSW of Nicoya. People of Santa Cruz, Canas, Liberia, Bagaces and Tamarindo will have felt light shaking of MMI IV.

  • M 5.0 moderate earthquake in Coquimbo, Chile (@ 29 km depth) with epicenter 29 km W of Illapel. People of  Salamanca, La Ligua, Monte Patria and Santiago will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Bolivia (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq (Shatt al Arab and Tigris), Kenya (Tana), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile, White Nile), Syria (Euphrates), Tanzania.


Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Fuego, Santiago, Poas, Reventador, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Raung, Erta Ale, Paluweh, Gamalama, Batu Tara, Sakurajima, Manam, Ulawun, Tolbachik and Kilauea volcano.


Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Tropical Cyclone Peta
    -A cyclone warning is issued in coastal areas from Port Hedland to Dampier, including Karratha.
  • Tropical Cyclone Garry
    -The Cook Islands is currently on cyclone alert.


Natural Disaster News
  • A tsunami warning drill will be held at 3.00 p.m. tomorrow in Sri Lanka's coastal area. Tsunami drill will cover 14 districts of Sri Lanka.
  • Following Sintra Mayor Fernando Seara, recent natural disasters storm in Portugal was the worst natural disaster in the last 50 years.
