M 6.0 strong earthquake shakes Eastern Kazakhstan today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 60 km SE of Kegen and 227 km E Almaty. It was 6.8 miles deep.

M 6.0 strong earthquake shakes Eastern Kazakhstan today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 60 km SE of Kegen and 227 km E Almaty. It was 6.8 miles deep.
Following USGS, light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Kegen, Tyup, Karakol, Aksu, Zharkent and Kyzyl-Suu. People of Kapchagai, Yesik, Aral, Talghar and Almaty will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.
Earthquake occurred in the border of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and China (Xinjiang). There are 19,0000 people within 100 km radius. The nearest places are and Imeni Stalina. Aftershocks are expected.

Just a coincidence but some days ago, a rumor spread of strong earthquake in Almaty (mainly because of the statement of the ecologist Mels Eleusizov mentioning major earthquake in Almaty). Instantly Seismology Institute LLP officials disproved rumors about a destructive earthquake in Almaty. The director of Seismology Institute LLP Tanatkan Abakanov formally disproved predicted earthquake in Almaty in a press conference.
Note that south seismic active zone of Kazakhstan is a part of the North Tian-Shan ridge system. It has record of catastrophic earthquakes.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from earthquake in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
