Live blog: Tracking Tropical Cyclone Narelle in Western Australia

Recent Natural Disasters 2013: Tropical Cyclone Narelle is the second TC that has formed in the Indian Ocean this cyclone season. TC Narelle which is moving  in a SW direction parallel to the northwestern WA coast north of Dampier is predicted to become a category 4 storm.

Tropical Cyclone Narelle which is so far the second TC that has formed in the Indian Ocean this cyclone season is currently classed as a category 3 system with very destructive winds up to 195km/h near its centre. TC Narelle which is moving  in a SW direction parallel to the northwestern WA coast north of Dampier is predicted to become a category 4 storm over the next 24 hours.
Australian Bureau of Meteorology has issued a code blue alert for category three cyclone Narelle. The disaster alert is issued for communities between Whim Creek and Mardie, including Karratha, Dampier, Roebourne, Point Samson and Wickham.
Thunderstorm activity is expected to increase around the Pilbara coast on Friday with isolated heavy rainfall possible.

-The apocalyptic-looking orange dust storm hit in the Indian Ocean near Onslow, Western Australia.
-According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the incredible images emerged after strong wind gusts and rain caused the storm to dump the sand and dust it had gathered while passing Onslow.

Update January 11, 2013; 04:00 UTC
-Tropical Cyclone Narelle (which is now a Category 4) is now estimated to be 505 kilometres north of Exmouth and 505 kilometres northwest of Karratha and moving southwest at 12 kilometres per hour.
-A Cyclone WARNING continues for coastal areas from Roebourne to Coral Bay,
including Karratha, Dampier, Onslow and Exmouth.
A Cyclone WATCH continues for coastal areas from Coral Bay to Carnarvon.
-Gales with gusts to 100 kilometres per hour could develop in coastal areas between Roebourne and Exmouth during this afternoon, then extend south to Coral Bay on Saturday.

Gale warning for the following areas:
Pilbara Coast East, Pilbara Coast West and Ningaloo Coast

Strong wind warning for the following areas:
Perth Local Waters, Gascoyne Coast, Geraldton Coast, Lancelin Coast, Perth Coast and Bunbury Geographe Coast

-At 11:00 pm WST Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle, Category 3 was estimated to be 600 kilometres north of Exmouth and 510 kilometres north northwest of Karratha and moving south southwest at 16 kilometres per hour.
-A Cyclone WARNING continues for coastal areas from Whim Creek to Coral Bay, including Karratha, Dampier, Onslow and Exmouth.
-Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle is expected to continue moving to the south southwest towards Northwest Cape and gradually intensify.

BLUE ALERT: Coastal and island communities from Whim Creek to Coral Bay including Wickham, Roebourne, Point Samson, Karratha and Dampier, Onslow, Exmouth and Coral Bay should be taking precautions.
Communities between Coral Bay and Cape Cuvier should listen for the next advice.

Strong wind warning is now cancelled for Eucla Coast but still in effect for Pilbara Coast East, Pilbara Coast West, Ningaloo Coast, Gascoyne Coast and Geraldton Coast.
Similarly strong wind warning is in effect for Perth Local Waters, Gascoyne Coast, Geraldton Coast, Lancelin Coast, Perth Coast and Bunbury Geographe Coast for Friday until midnight WST Friday 11 January 2013.

TC Narelle is currently located 630 kilometres north of Exmouth and 535 kilometres north northwest of Karratha and moving south southwest at 19 kilometres per hour.

including Karratha, Dampier, Onslow and Exmouth.
A Cyclone WATCH continues for coastal areas from Coral Bay to Cape Cuvier.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle is expected to continue moving to the south southwest towards Northwest Cape and gradually intensify.
Tides along the west Pilbara coast are likely to rise above the normal high tide mark on Friday night and Saturday, with flooding of low lying coastal areas.
