Disaster Report: Guatemala’s Volcán de Fuego (Volcano of Fire), erupted on the morning of September 13, 2012 (local time). Around 33,000 people evacuated.

Update 12:15 UTC
-Vice President Roxana Baldetti visited one of the evacuation shelter set up in public buildings in Santa Lucia Cotzumalguapa.
-All air traffic halted in southern and southwestern Guatemala, grounding flights between Guatemala City and the Mexican state of Chiapas.
-Volcanic sand has fallen in Escuintla, Mazatenango, Retalhuleu and San Marcos area.

-Red Alert is currently in effect in the areas near the Volcano of Fire, especially in the departments of Chimaltenango communities.
-This is what Institute of Volcanology of Guatemala said:
-Several people treated in health centers for respiratory problems. One person reported to be in critical condition.
-Due to the presence of heavy volcanic ash, still the main cone cannot be viewed.
-Around 33,000 people evacuated after eruption of Fuego volcano in Guatemala.
-Volcano spewed smoke and ash 3km into the sky. Schools and universities reported to be closed.
-A state of orange alert is in place for Fuego volcano.
-Ten different evacuation centers established.
-It is the sixth and strongest eruption this year.
Volcán de Fuego ("Volcano of Fire") is an active stratovolcano in Guatemala which lies about 16 kilometers from the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala. It is one of the Guatemala’s most famous tourist attractions.
