Recent Natural Disasters
Jigawa_Nigeria_flood_photo
  • Flooding in Kogi and Jigawa, Nigeria
    -At least 19 people reported to be killed in Koto-Karfe area of Kogi and some parts of Jigawa state of Nigeria.
    -Floods destroyed more than 36,000 houses in Jigawa. Part of Lokoja-Abuja highway was also washed away by flood water.
    -Two relief camps established at St. Luke Anglican school, Adankolo and Anglican Primary School, Felele.
    -Flood disaster has so far killed more than 200 people across Nigeria. Fourteen out of Twenty five local government areas of the state are worse hit by the floods (Photo source vanguardngr).

  • M 5.4 moderate earthquake in Oaxaca, Mexico (@ 36 km depth) with epicenter located 12 km SSE of San Pedro Amuzgos. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, Ometepec, Putla and Santa Maria Asuncion Tlaxiaco. People of Oaxaca, Mexico City and Atlixco will have felt weak shakng of MMI II-III.

  • M 5.6 strong harmless earthquake in Tonga (@ 11 km depth) with epicenter located 98 km NE of `Ohonua. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Nuku`alofa, Pangai, Havelu and Vaini.

  • M 5.1 moderate earthquake in Greece (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 6 km SSE of Kiriakion. Moderate shaking of MMI V will have felt by the people of Kiriakion, Ayia Trias, Stirion, Levadeia, Ayios Yeoryios and Korini.     -As of 15:00 UTC, TS Miriam was located 1025 km SSE of the southern tip of Baja California.
    -Miriam is moving toward the west-northwest near 5 mp. No threat to land.
    -Miriam is forecast to become a hurricane by Monday.
  • Tropical Storm Jelawat
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Jelawat was located 565 nm east-southeast of Manila, Philippines.
  • Post-Tropical Cyclone Nadine
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TC Nadine was located 680 km S of the Azores. No threat to land.

  • Wildfire in Round Hill area, Virginia
    -Wildfire burned about 2 acres near Elks Point Road in the Round Hill area of Virginia, United States.
    -As of 10:00 UTC, fire is burning between Sewer Plant Road and Elks Point Road. No evacuation order issued.
