Recent Natural Disasters

• Lightning in Bihar, India
  -Ten killed and six others injured by lightning in Purnia district of Bihar, India.
  -Heavy rainfall and flooding also caused wide spread damage in Dhamdaha, Banmankhi, Kasba and Gulabbagh police stations in Purnia.

• Flooding in Kanchanpur, Nepal
  -More than 600 families displaced due to flooding in Kanchanpur district of Nepal.
  -Continuous rainfall from last four days cause flooding in Bhimduttanagar Municipality.
  -Floods also displaced 200 households in Sri-Lanka village of Geta VDC in Kailali district. Heavy rainfall collapsed one house in Jalalfe Pakhrin of Lamatole.

  -It is the eighth major earthquake in the region in a year.
  -Earthquake occurred in Alpes de Haute-Provence.
  -The 1708 France: Manosque Earthquake caused $1 to $5 million in damage.
• M 4.4 light earthquake in Timor region (@ 35 km depth) with epicenter located 20 km SSE of Popnam (Indonesia). Weak shaking of MMI III will have felt by the people of Soe, Kefamenanu and  Atambua.

• M 4.9 moderate shallow earthquake in Central Turkey (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 27 km SE of Turkoglu. Light shaking will have felt by the people of Gaziantep, Pazarcik and Nurdagi.

• M 4.5 moderate shallow earthquake in Iceland region (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 71 km NNW from Akureyri. It will have faintly felt by the people of Isafjordur, Neskaupstadur and Reykjavik.

• M 4.7 moderate deep earthquake in Halmahera, Indonesia (@ 117 km depth) with epicenter located 79 km WSW of Tobelo. It will have just faintly felt by the people of Ternate, Kota Ternate and Bitung.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Argentina, Australia (Murray and Darling), Brazil (Paraguay, Xingu, Rio Teles Pires, Rio Paranaiba, Madeira and Tocantins), Cameroon (Benue), Chad, China (Mekong and Huang He), Colombia (Japura and Magdelena), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Lukaga), Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria (Niger and Benue), Pakistan, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania and Venezuela (Orinoco).

• Flash floods in Banteay Meanchey, Cambodia
  -Flash floods displaced about 3,000 families in Banteay Meanchey province of Cambodia.
  -Local authorities and Cambodian Red Cross volunteers are working in rescue operations.
  -Last year floods killed at least 250 Cambodian people.

  -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Nadine was located 525 km WSW of the Azores.
  -A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Azores Islands of Flores, corvo, faial, Pico, sao jorge, graciosa and Terceira.
  -Nadine is moving toward the north-northeast near 7 mp.
• Tropical Storm Lane
  -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Lane was located 2105 km W of the southern tip of Baja California.
  -Lane is moving toward the west-northwest near 9 mph. No threats to land.

Natural Disaster News

• Wildfire in Wenatchee, Washington
  -One firefighter killed in wildfire. Fire burned 35,500 acres in Chelan County.
  -More than 4,000 firefighters are currently struggling to control the blaze.
