Recent Natural Disasters
Uttarakhand_flooding_picture
  • Flash floods and landslides in Rudraprayag and Bageshwar districts of India
    -At least 19 killed and 30 others reported to be missing in Rudraprayag and Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand, India.
    -Still 25 to 30 people are expected to be buried under the rubble in Rudraprayag district.
    -Chunni, Mangoli, Kimana, Sansari, Giriya, Brahmankholi, Premnagar and Juatok areas reported to be worst hit by the disaster.
    -120 army and ITBP personnel are currently helping in rescue operations.
    -Landslips also closed the Rishikesh-Badrinath and Rishikesh-Gangotri highways.

  • M 4.5 light earthquake in Northern California (@ 24 km depth) with epicenter located 8 km SW from Rio Dell. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Hydesville, Fortuna and Ferndale. Just a weak shaking of MMI III will have felt by the people of Humboldt Hill, Pine Hills, McKinley ville, Eureka, Cutten, Fortuna, Myrtletown and Arcata.

  • M 2.3 weak earthquake in Bulgaria (@ 2 km depth) with epicenter located 1 km NE Pernik. It will have well felt by the people of Sofia too.

  • M 6.3 strong earthquake in Kepulauan Mentawai Region, Indonesia (@ 26 km depth) with epicenter located 190 km WNW from Bengkulu. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Sungaipenuh, Bengkulu, Curup, Lubuklinggau, Padang, Solok, Pariaman, Pagaralam, Lahat, Mandahara and Kualatungkal.

  • M 5.0 moderate earthquake in Northern Xinjiang, China (@ 27 km depth) with epicenter located 95 km ESE of Yining Xian. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Zharkent, Kuqa and Sarkand.

Recent Flash Floods
Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Argentina, Australia (Darling), Brazil (Rio Paranaiba, Madeira and Tocantins), Cameroon (Benue), Chad, China (Mekong and Huang He), Colombia (Magdelena), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya (Ahero Bridge), Laos (Mekong), Madagascar, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria (Benue), Paraguay (Parana), Panama, Peru (Ucayali), Senegal, United States (Colorado and Ohio) and Venezuela (Orinoco).
  • Flash floods in Padang, Indonesia
    -Four killed in flash floods in Padang in West Sumatra of Indonesia.
    -More than 24 families are living in temporary accommodation centers.
    Update
     -A ferry is reported to be missing in the Mahakam River in East Kalimantan. The ferry was carrying 26 passengers and was traveling from Samarinda to West Kutai.


Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Fuego, San Cristobal, Reventador, Villarrica, Stromboli, Erta Ale, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Sakurajima, Dukono, Semeru, Batu Tara, Manam, Kizimen, Karymsky, Yasur, Ambrym and Kilauea volcano.
  • Fuego/Guatemala recent volcanic activity
    -Around 33,000 people evacuated after eruption of Fuego volcano in Guatemala.
    -Volcano spewed smoke and ash 3km into the sky. Schools and universities reported to be closed.
    -The Fuego volcano last erupted in May. Volcano lies 40km southwest of the capital Guatemala City. Click for detail update report on Fuego volcano.
  • Mexico/Popocatepetl recent volcanic activity
    -Ash explosion continues in Popocatepetl volcano in the interval of 2-3 hours.
    -Lots of Sulfur dioxide gas is being produced from the volcano.


Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Tropical Storm Nadine
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Nadine was located 1230 km NE of the northern Leeward Islands and 350 km se of Bermuda.
    -Nadine is moving toward the north-northwest near 15 mph. no threat to land.
  • Tropical Storm Kristy
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Kristy was located 100 km N of Socorro island and 375 km SSW of the southern tip of Baja California.
    -Swells generated by Kristy will affect portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico and southern Baja California during the next day or two.
  • Super Typhoon Sanba
    -As of 03:00 UTC, Sanba was located 500 nm south-southeast of Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan.
