M 4.7 moderate earthquake strikes Off the Coast of Venezuela today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 139 km NNE of Caraballeda and 152 km NNE of Caracas.It was 31.8 miles deep.

Magnitude 6.5 earthquake in Caracas in 1967 killed 240 people and made 80,000 people homeless.
The 1967 Caracas earthquake caused damage over $100 million with worst in the Altamira and Los Palos Grandes sections of Caracas.

Venezuela, officially called the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, is a tropical country on the northern coast of South America which borders Colombia to the west, Guyana to the east, and Brazil to the south.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
