Recent Natural Disasters
  • Devastating floods in Jos, Nigeria

    -At least 35 people reported to be killed in recent floods in Jos, a city in the Middle Belt of Nigeria. Still 50 people are reported to be missing.
    -Floods destroyed more than 200 homes. Several houses in Tudun Talakawa, Tudun Osi, Gadar Yan Tukwane in Rikkos area, as well as Anguwan Rogo and some parts of Gangare in Jos were damaged.
    -Two camps have been opened for flood victims in Gangare Primary School and Islamiyya Secondary School.
    -Six students were killed in floods in Lagos, Nigeria some days ago.
    -Massive flooding in Nigeria in 2010 made more than 111,000 people homeless.
  • Typhoon Vicente in China
    -Three killed and six other reported to be missing in disasters in China caused by Typhoon Vicente.
    -Typhoon Vicente made landfall early today over the city of Taishan in Guangdong province of China.
    -Strong winds damaged around 500 houses and destroyed about 13,600 hectares of crops.
    -Intercity high-speed train services between Guangzhou and Shenzhen was temporarily halted due to severe weather.
    -Red Alert issued in Hainan. Thirty-two flights were canceled at the Phoenix International Airport in Sanya, Hainan.
    -Flood waters are at high level (highest in last nine years) in the Three Gorges Dam, world’s largest hydropower project.

  • M 5.2 moderate shallow earthquake in Western Iran (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 42 km SW of Borujen. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Shahr-e Kord, Farrokh Shahr, Esfahan and Farsan.

  • M 5.2 moderate shallow earthquake in Oaxaca, Mexico (@ 13 km depth) with epicenter located 11 km SSE of San Juan Cacahuatepec. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Santiago Pinotepa Nacional and Ometepec. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Acapulco, Chilpancingo, Cholula, Tehuacán, Tultitlán, Naucalpan, Coacalco and Mexico City.

  • M4.7 moderate earthquake in Mindanao, Philippines (@ 79 km depth) with epicenter located 15 km ESE of Kinablangan. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Baganga, Manay and Compostela.

  • Flooding in Italy
    -Galllipoli and Brindisi mainly affected by floods in Italy.
    -Hospital in Brindisi closed due to flood waters.
    -Heavy storms reported in Lecce in southern Italy. Lighting struck the Lecce television station Telerama.
    -More than 70mm rainfall recorded in the town of Genzano, south of the Castelli Romani in just one hour!
  • Flooding in Clark county, Southern Nevada
    -Flash floods warning issued for west-central Clark County.
    -A thunderstorm along with heavy rainfall is forecast about 9 miles north of Sandy Valley.

Tropical Cyclone List
  • Typhoon Vicente
    -As of 00:30 UTC, Typhoon Vicente was located approximately 60 nm southwest of Hong Kong.
    -Vicente is forecast to bring strong winds and heavy rain to Hong Kong. It will hit the mainland coast early today (Tuesday).
    Update
    -At least fifty people reported to be injured due to T.S. Vicente.
    -Typhoon warning level raised to the most severe level of 10 for  the first time since 1999.

Natural Disaster News
  • Wildfire in Croatia
    -A firefighter killed and about 1,500 tourists evacuated due to wildfire in Adriatic coast, Croatia.
    -Most of the tourists were Slovenians and Austrians.
    -About 14 people were injured in wildfire disaster in Strumica, Macedonia.
  • Drought in Missouri, United States
    -A state of drought emergency declared in Missouri. About 25 people died in the state following the recent droughts and heat wave.
    -June 2012 was the globe's 4th warmest June on record.
