Disaster Report: Residents along the Fraser River floodplain in Abbotsford, B.C. are ordered to evacuate. State of local emergency declared.

Flooding in Fraser Valley

-The City of Abbotsford, located east of Vancouver, declared a state of emergency, issuing evacuation orders for 18 homes.
-The water level is high in the Fraser River not seen in 40 years.
-Heavy rainfall forecast in the Kootenay, Okanagan, Monashee, Cariboo and Chilcotin regions.
-Power outage reported across Fraser valley.
-About 1,000 forest firefighters are on standby to help place sandbags in the areas affected by flooding.
-The Fraser Valley is the section of the Fraser River basin in southwestern British Columbia downstream of the Fraser Canyon.
Friday night
1,240 people across B.C. were on evacuation alert and another 165 were on evacuation order.
Saturday morning
The District of Maple Ridge, located east of Vancouver and on the Fraser, issued evacuation alerts to 43 homes.
