Recent Natural Disasters

• Tornadoes in United States
  -Several tornadoes reported causing heavy destruction in Kansas, Lowa, Nebraska and Oklahoma.
  Kansas: At least 10 tornadoes hit Kansas. McConnell Air Force Base and the Spirit AeroSystems  and Boeing plants reported to be damaged.
  Lowa: Heavy storms damaged a hospital in Creston. Patients and staff are safe. Wide damage in Thurman, where 75 % of the town reported to be destroyed. People were evacuated to City hall.
  Nebraska: Hailstones damaged several vehicles and roof of houses.
  -Still several severe tornadoes are expected to hit from East Texas to the Great Lakes early today (Sunday).
  -Aside is the video of twin tornadoes near Cherokee, Oklahoma.
  -On April 10, tornadoes in Woodward region of Oklahoma injured two people.
  -More than 1,200 tornadoes hit United States (mainly in "Tornado Alley" which includes Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Iowa) every year which has made it a more common natural disaster. Even EF4 or EF5 tornadoes hit often.

  Due to storm damage, schools in Woodward area will be closed for tomorrow.

  About 90 houses destroyed in Woodward County.

• M 3.0 weak shallow earthquake in Lebanon-Syria region with epicenter located 26 km SE Bayrut. Weak shaking will have felt by the people of Bayrut and alayh.

• M 4.7 moderate shallow earthquake in Honshu, Japan (@ 31 km depth) with epicenter located 23 km ENE of Iwaki. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Iwaki and Namie.

• M 6.2 very strong shallow but harmless aftershocks off west coast of Northern Sumatra (in seawater @ 15 km depth) with epicenter located 651 km WSW of Banda Aceh. 5 killed and 7 were injured when M 8.7 massive earthquake hit Off Indonesia some days ago.

• M 4.6 moderate shallow earthquake in Tabasco, Mexico (@ 19 km depth) today with epicenter located 11 km E Miguel hidalgo. Weak shaking will have felt as far as Flores and Carmen.

• Flooding in Shanxi, China
  -10 miners were killed after flooding in coalmines in Shanxi, China.
  -Several people are still reported to be missing.
  -About five millions people work in coal-mining industry in china out of which as many as 20,000 mine workers die in certain accidents each year.

  Death toll has risen to 11.
• Flooding in Tehran, Iran
  -Heavy rainfall caused flooding in capital Tehran.
  -Tehran Metro (line 4) was also flooded.
  -Hailstorms caused minor damage to houses.

Natural Disaster News

• Landslide in Thai Nguyen province of Vietnam
  -One killed and other seven reported to be injured in a landslide in Phan Me Mine area.
  -About ten houses damaged by landslide.
  -Rescue work is in slow pace due to lack of bulldozers and excavators.
  -Last year in April, 13 were killed in Vietnam rockslide. Landslide is a common type of natural disaster in Vietnam.
• Hailstorms in Trstenik, Serbia
  -Hailstorm in Southern Serbia damaged several houses and agricultural crops.
  -Trstenik, hailstorm affected area,  is a town located in the Rasina District of Serbia.
