Recent Natural Disasters
”Ecuador_southamerica_google_satellite_map_Flooding_in_ecuador_march_27_2012”
  • Flooding in Ecuador, South America
    -Following recent report by Ecuador's National Secretary for Risk Management, flooding in Ecuador has killed 30 people affecting around 84,000 people
    -34,000 hectares of crops destroyed
    -Guayas and Los Rios were worst affected where state of emergency was declared
    -Heavy rainfall has destroyed hundreds of homes causing landslides and mudslides
    -Yesterday flooding in the region of Pujili, in the Andean province of Cotopaxi killed two people. 10 people were injured and more than 100 were homeless
  • Forest fire in Bhutan
    -Forest fire reported in Samtse Dzongkhag (Tading) region of Bhutan
    -Fire which started from Mahadewdam is uncontrollable now
    -No damage or injury reported
    -Natural disasters are very common in Bhutan. Forest fire incidence is normally high during the dry winter months.

  • M 5.0 moderate shallow earthquake in Nepal-India border region (@ 31 km depth) with epicenter located 16 km S Bahadurganj. The epicenter is 63 km south of Biratnagar, Nepal.
    Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Biratnagar, Dharan, Ilam of Nepal side and Sikkim and Shilīguri region of India. Following USGS, weak shaking will have experienced as far Nepal's capital kathamndu and Dinajpur, Bangladesh. Click for detail report on this earthquake

  • M 4.6 moderate deep earthquake in Tarapaca, Chile (@ 108 km depth) with epicenter located 115 km NE of Iquique. Weak shaking will have felt as far as Arica.
    14:46 UTC (local time Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 10:46 AM @ epicenter)
  • M 6.0 very strong shallow earthquake near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 25 km NE Miyako. About 8,000 people have experienced very strong shaking of MMI VII.  People of Miyako and Yamada will have felt strong shaking of MMI VI.
    Moderate shaking will have felt by the people of Otsuchi, Morioka, Kamaishi and  Hachinohe. Light to weak shaking will have felt in vast area including Aomori, Sendai, Yamagata and     Fukushima.
    Last earthquake of M 7.7 in 1983-05-26 killed 104 people in this area.

  • M 4.4 moderate shallow earthquake Offshore Bio-Bio, Chile (@ 23 km depth) with epicenter located 26 km SW of Concepcion. People of Arauco, Talcahuano and Concepcion will have experienced light to weak shaking. Earlier M 7.1 very strong earthquake in Talca, Chile killed one people.

Volcanic Activity List
  • Guatemala/Santiaguito recent volcanic activity
    -Increase in seismic activity with dispersion of ash in various directions
    -More than 30 explosion recorded in last 24 hours
    -In another Guatemalan volcano, Fuego white and blue plume up to 100 meters above the crater were observed
  • Ecuador/Tungurahua recent volcanic activity
    -A constant column of steam and ash rising from the summit crater upto maximum height of 3 km
    -At 21:00 local time, thich ashfall was reported in sectors of Chacauco, Cusúa, Pondoa, Juive and Runtún
    -Following Instituto Geofísico, Ecuador, seismic activity in Tungurahua volcano remains characterized by the generation of emission bands of tremor lasting several minutes, interspersed with bursts and long-period events, which could be related to fluid movement within the volcano

Flooding List
  •  Flooding in Southern Luzon (Mindoro) Philippines
    -At least 20 people evacuated from Naujan, Mansalay and Baco towns of Southern Luzon
    -Various agricultural crops destroyed in Mansalay town
    -Heavy rainfall caused the overflow of river
    -The area was under flood warning due to possible rain showers and thunderstorms from a new shallow low-pressure area (LPA)
  • Flooding in Ontario, Canada
    -Flooding in Ontario has worst affected Kashechewan and Fort Albany areas
    -Earlier evacuated people are living in Kapuskasing and Wawa
    -Evacuations have currently been suspended

Tropical Cyclone List
  • Potential cyclones in Philippines
    -At 2:00 a.m. today (local time), the Active Low Pressure Area (ALPA) was estimated 490 km west northwest of Puerto Princesa City. Another Low Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated at 740 km east of Southern Mindanao
    -Strong to gale force wind is expected to affect the seaboards of Luzon and Eastern Visayas
    -Following Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Service, ALPA is moving out of Philippine territory, even as the other low-pressure area has a small chance of becoming a cyclone

Natural Disaster News
  • Wildfire in the mountains west of Denver, Colorado destroyed atleast 5 homes. Evacuation order was issued for 900 around the affected area. Up to a dozen smaller fires were also reported from the northeast Colorado plains to the southern part of the state. However no injury or damage report.
  • Four people reported to be killed when a lightning strike during a heavy storm in the Amazon region (Para, Brazil). All the four fatalities belong to same family.
    Nearly 58 million lightning strikes Brazil every year.
  • Recent solar flare was considered one of the largest solar events in years. A surge of infrared radiation from nitric oxide molecules on March 8-10, 2012, signals the biggest upper-atmospheric heating event in seven years. Click for an article by Science daily

  2. I Agree with Anonymous up there i need past events also. this is good information but if you had past events it would be much more helpful and i would highly recomend this site. but it lacks information.
