M 3.4 light earthquake strikes Romania today (@ 11 km depth) with epicenter located 6 km E Bucharest. It will have well felt by the people of Chitila, Chiajna and Bucharest. No damage or injury reported.
Bucharest is the largest city in Romania, located in the southeast of the country, on the banks of the Dâmbovița River.
Romania is situated in a seismically active region and has a history of devastating and deadly earthquakes.
The 1977 Vrancea Earthquake occurred on Friday, 4 March 1977, 21:20 local time and was felt throughout the Balkans. The earthquake killed about 1,578 people (1,424 in Bucharest), and wounded more than 11,300.
