Recent Major Disaster Alert
    ”Tungurahua-volcano-erupts-in-ecuador-night”/
  • Volcanic Eruption in Ecuador has thrown pyroclastic boulders up to a mile from the crater. Residents near the Tungurahua Volcano were noticed to evacuate after a rapid increase of volcanic activity yesterday afternoon.The loud roars from the site have reportedly shook residential windows up to 14 kilometers (8.6 miles) away.

    -Ash falls are reported in the sectors of CUSU and Chacauco
    -lower emission columns at 3km with low ash content and blowing to the W and NE
    -Some 25,000 residents live permanently in high-risk evacuation areas under the mountain's steep flanks.
    -Authorities have setup emergency refugees for citizens that live close to the Tungurahua

    A red alert was declared last December when Tungurahua - which means "Throat of Fire" (in the indigenous Quechua language) reactivated, prompting a temporary evacuation of residents and tourists. 
  • Drought in Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania (Danube River basin)-According to officials in Bulgaria, water levels have dropped to near-record lows along parts of the river, making it almost impossible to navigate.
    -An environmental group has warned that the drought is evidence of the Danube's reduced resilience to extreme conditions.
    -Boats in Serbia are stranded until the river returns to more normal levels
    -Power supplies running low in Serbia

    -Drinking water shortages in Bosnia
    -Crop production is in jeopardy in Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary.
    -The Czech Republic is at its driest since records began in 1775
    -Electricity supplies
    running low in Bosnia and Serbia due to the low river water levels

    Shipping companies are having great losses. The flow is so low in the Serbian capital Belgrade that boats are clear of the water line

Today's Disaster Report  
  • Landslide in Tona (Departmento de Santander) area of Colombia has killed 4 people. A bus is reported to be buried under tons of rubble where the four dead bodies were found. Local media reported that at least two women were still trapped alive on Thursday morning and rescue workers were in the process of releasing them.
  • Flash flood is reported in Roma city of State of Queensland, Australia. Up to 50 millimetres downpour in less than an hour. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for minor flood levels in Bugil Creek.
  • Recent Snowstorm (12/8/2011 updated) in England (north) and Scotland areas of United Kingdom has led the Scottish Government  to close schools in west, central and southern areas.  Ministers have advised councils in the west of the country not to open schools in the morning, while those in the east have been advised that they should close at 12pm ahead of the worst of the weather. The Government further added travel conditions could be "dangerous". Winds of up to 100mph have been forecasted.

  • M 4.4 very shallow moderate earthquake in Eastern Turkey just below Dibekli. It will be well felt around the epicenter. It is around the same area where the earlier M 7.2 deadliest Turkey earthquake killed 605+ people.

  • M 3.1 earthquake in Greece stuck today with epicenter just below Magoula. Elefsis Airport of Greece is just above the epicenter. People around epicenter can easily experience this quake.

    Koridallós: It was a really "small" earthquake,i was watching tv when i felt it,first i though it was the movie effects,but  i realised that it was too real!i heard a rumbling and felt like  be shaked up and down,my father too,he was right next to me.Some lambs haging moved a bit,some indoor plants' leaves moved like been blowed by air,and that's all!Not anything big,or destructive!
    Piraeus: Noticeable jerky motion, lasted about 5 seconds.
    Kallithea: It was just a quite brief sinking feeling
    Athens: It had an up&down movement, not the usual side swaying...It felt like a jolt.
    Nea Smyrni: minor earthquake in feeling
    Vrilissia: Barely noticed it. My mother who was sitting next to me didn't believe me when I told her that it was an earthquake.
    Glifáda : Very quick in time
  • Magnitude 4.7 shallow earthquake (@ 5 km depth) in North Eastern Iran (جاده سرخ چشمه) with epicenter located just below Qazaqi, Iran. Max. MMI of this quake is IV which will well felt in Esfarayen (pop 59,678) region too. Bojnord (pop 192,041) is 41 km far from epicenter where weak shaking will be experienced.

  • Magnitude 3.4 earthquake (@ 24 km depth) stuck today in Northern California with epicenter just below Capetown, California. People of Petrolia, Ferndale, Rio Dell and Eureka area will feel it well.

  • M 4.9 earthquake disaster (@ 54 km depth) in Honshu, Japan with epicenter in sea water 75 km ESE of Hachinohe, Honshu, Japan . JMA mentions M 4.2 @ 40 km depth in Iwate-ken Oki region. Max. JMA intensity 2, which indicates just light shaking (Japan disaster report)

  • Magnitude 4.8 shallow moderate earthquake with MMI V is recorded in Luzon, Philippines with epicenter close to Mingay, Province of Cagayan. Claveria (pop 10,618) is 10 far from the epicenter where shaking will be well felt. Luckily the epicenter is in Sea water.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake (@ 89.6 km depth) in Offshore El Salvador (Middle America) with epicenter in sea water  located 29 km S of Club Salinitas, Departamento de Sonsonate. Izalco volcano (strato) is 41 km far from the epicenter. It is 41 km S Acajutla (pop 22,763) far where light shaking will be felt.

    Another M 4.8 is recorded after 30 minutes in the same area. It is 31 km SSW of Acajutla, El Salvador where light shaking will be felt.
  • M 2.8 earthquake (@ 17.7 km depth) in Greater Los Angeles Area, California with epicenter just below Hawthorne, California. It is weak earthquake in populated area. Jack Northrop Fld Hawthorne Muni Airport is just above the epicenter. People of Hawthorne, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Compton, Culver City, El Segundo, Gardena, Hermosa Beach, Hawthorne, Lawndale, Redondo Beach, Marina del Rey, Venice, Manhattan Beach, Marina del Rey, Torrance, Encino and other region  reported to feel it well.

  • Magnitude 4.1 shallow earthquake disaster in Northern California located 115 km S of Capetown, California. Th epicenter is in Sea water and far from residential area, so just light shaking will be experienced around coastal area.

  • Magnitude 2.6 minor but very shallow earthquake (@ 1 km depth) in Portugal with epicenter located 11 km S Grandola (pop 10,737). It will be faintly felt as far as Setubal (pop 117,110), Portugal.

    M 5.0 shallow earthquake (@ 10 km depth) stuck after 5 hours earlier in Azores Island Portugal today at 08:54 UTC (local time 7:54 AM @ epicenter). It is 163 km S of Santa Cruz das Flores, Azores, Portugal with epicenter in Sea water which will be just faintly felt.
  • Magnitude 5.0 earthquake in Bonin Island, Japan, surrounded by water, located 184 km NNE of Chichi-shima, Bonin Islands, Japan.

  • Magnitude 4.6 aftershocks of earlier M 6.1 earthquake in Atacama, Chile. The aftershocks is recorded after 3 hours of very strong earthquake. For earlier too, ONEMI mentions No se reportan daños a personas, alteración a servicios básicos o infraestructura producto de este sismo means No  damage reported to people, disruption to basic services or infrastructure product from this earthquake. this aftershocks won't have the much effect as epicenter is in Sea water located 85 km (52 miles) NNW of Vallenar, Atacama, Chile

  • Magnitude 3.2 earthquake (@ 107 km depth) in Alaska Peninsula with epicenter located 33 km S of Kanatak, Alaska. People didn't even feel this as it is deep with epicenter in Sea water.

Recent Volcanic Eruptions
  • Mount Gamalama (12/8/2011 updated) in Indonesia's North Maluku province (Island of Ternate) erupted releasing volcanic ashes. However there is no any report of damage or losses by this disaster. yesterday we showed you the video of Mount Gamalama area which clearly shows the volcanic activity and the panicked people.
    -As many as 2,209 people are taking refuge due to volcanic eruption of Mount Gamalama in Indonesia's North Maluku province as of Thursday
    -Current
    Danger status of the volcano is at level III
    -Cold lava is still flowing from the volcano that erupted at 23:00 local time on Sunday
    -Regional Agency of Disaster Management (BPBD) has deployed heavy equipments for cold lava handling
    -The Sultan Babulah Airport in the provincial capital city of Ternate is still closed

    Gamalama's last major eruption was in 2003. No deaths were reported then. Indonesia has about 500 volcanoes. Of these, 128 are active and 65 are listed as dangerous.
  • Sundoro volcano in central Java was raised to level 2 alert on 6th December 2011 after an increase in seismicity. The temperature of fumaroles at the summit increased from 75 deg C on 26th November to 95 deg C on 2nd December. On 2nd December a plume from the summit rose several tens of metres above the rim of the crater
