January 7, 2025: On Tuesday morning, a powerful earthquake struck Dingxi village in Sichuan province, China, killing 53 people and injuring 62 others. The quake was also felt across neighboring Nepal, India, Bangladesh, and Bhutan. The Nepal Earthquake Measurement Center recorded a magnitude of 7.0, while China’s Earthquake Network Center reported it at 6.8.
The tremors damaged several houses in Nepal’s Solukhumbu, Sankhuwasabha, Okhaldhunga, and Taplejung districts. In response, the Armed Police Force of Nepal has deployed around 2,500 personnel to assess the extent of the damage and ensure public safety.
There have been no additional reports of casualties in Nepal at present. Rescue operations are ongoing, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
