Nova Scotia Flash Flood: Heavy Rainfall Triggers Flash Floods in Multiple Counties

July 11, 2024: Less than two weeks before last year’s deadly flash flooding anniversary, residents in parts of Nova Scotia are grappling with the effects of heavy rainfall and flash flooding.

On Thursday evening, around 8:30 PM, the Emergency Management Office (EMO) issued a flash flood alert for Digby, Annapolis, Kings, and Hants counties. The alert was prompted by severe thunderstorms that caused intense rainfall and subsequent flooding in these areas.

According to Environment Canada, more than 100 mm of rain fell within a few hours as the remnants of Hurricane Beryl swept through the western part of Nova Scotia. This deluge resulted in localized flooding and road washouts, disrupting transportation and posing significant risks to residents.
