According to the United States Geological Survey, intensity IX on the Modified Mercalli scale (MM) was recorded in Port-au-Prince.

The earthquake which occurred on 12 January 2010 was of magnitude 7.0 Mw with epicenter located 25 kilometres west of Port-au-Prince, the capital city of Haiti.
