September 19, 2017: An earthquake of magnitude 7.1 struck Central Mexico at 13:14 CDT (18:14 UTC) on 19 September 2017 with epicenter located about 55 km south of the city of Puebla.
The earthquake killed 370 people and injured more than 6,000 people. The earthquake damage has been reported in the Mexican states of Puebla and Morelos and in the Greater Mexico City area.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred on a moderately dipping normal fault.
The earthquake coincidentally occurred on the 32nd anniversary of the 1985 Mexico City earthquake, which killed around 10,000 people.
