June 14, 2017: At least three people died after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit western Guatemala near the Mexico border early Wednesday morning.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred 5 km NNE of San Pablo at a depth of 94 km.
Two women died in the city of Quetzaltenango and a homeless man died in the town of San Sebastian Retalhueleu.
A church got collapsed in San Sebastian Retalhuelu in southern Guatemala.
A strong tremor of MMI VI was felt by the people of Congregacion Reforma, Ciudad Hidalgo, Ayutla, Octavio Paz, Los Palacios and Alvaro Obregon. It was is sparsely populated and mountainous area. Similarly, moderate to light tremor was felt by the people of Guatemala City, Tuxtla, San Salvador, San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa.
