March 26, 2017: The Department of Education has shut at least 139 schools and early childhood education and care service in preparation for Cyclone Debbie.
Around 74 public schools have been closed in preparation for Cyclone Debbie. Also, 26 catholic and independent school have been shut down. Apart from that, 39 early childhood education and care service have been also closed.
Burdekin Shire Council has announced residents in coastal communities around Ayr to evacuate as soon as possible.
Tropical Cyclone Debbie is likely to cross the Queensland coast early on Tuesday morning. Cyclone Debbie is expected to bring winds of up to 250 km/hr.
Cyclone Debbie is predicted to make landfall as a cyclone on the north Queensland coast Tuesday morning between Townsville and Proserpine.
