Severe storms in United States kill 6

January 3, 2017: At least six people died in the United States after severe thunderstorms spawned several tornadoes on Monday.

Four people died in Rehobeth, Alabama, one in Florida and a woman in southwestern Georgia.

"Downed trees and damaged buildings were reported in at least 28 counties in Mississippi, 15 parishes in Louisiana and 15 counties in Texas," The Weather Channel reported quoting the Associated Press.

Torrential rainfall also led the opening of a three-foot sinkhole in Dothan on Monday morning.

A flash flood emergency was declared by the emergency management officials in Jackson.
